Royal George Theater Complex

1641 North Halsted, Chicago, Illinois

Completed in 1987, The Royal George Theater mixed use development combines a renovated four story 1890’s office loft building at the south end of the site with new construction that includes 3 theaters, a restaurant and parking garage.  The main stage, in a traditional proscenium style, shoe-box design, seats 450 and provides full professional production capabilities including control room, dimmer room, loading dock, dressing rooms, laundry and pressing rooms as well as orchestra pit.  The cabaret accommodates 150 guests on three levels and includes a full service kitchen and bar.  The third entertainment venue consists of a black box/gallery theater providing an opportunity for small scale experimental theater production for an audience of 60.

In between the theater building at the north and merging into the renovated office loft to the south is the 10,500 square feet restaurant.  With a seating capacity of 154 located on several interconnected levels the restaurant is centered around a grand 2 story high sky lit gallery framed by heavy timber.  Above, the second, third and fourth floors of the original loft building contain approximately 11,850 square feet of loft office space.  In a supporting role, the 23,210 square foot  garage provides parking for 61 vehicles.
