The Cloud Apartments
Paul G. Stewart Campus - Bronzeville, Chicago, Illinois
The Cloud Apartments, proposed to begin construction in 2019, represents a new phase for the Paul G. Stewart Center. This new building will make dramatic reuse of a key part of the urban history and fabric of Bronzeville by incorporating the abandoned elevated railway embankment on which ran the Kenwood Line, a railroad originally developed as an east/west transfer line between the Illinois Central to the east and the Union Stockyards to the west. Instead of tearing down this bit of history the Cloud Apartments will sit astride and on top of the railroad embankment, thereby reintegrating a lost part of the Bronzeville neighborhood back into the community. In addition, the Cloud Apartments promises to offer the best in sustainable, energy efficient design as well as the latest in Smart technologies to provide residents with a though roughly modern and interconnected housing experience.
